Titicaca – 10 Days or 12 Days
Visits: Lima, Puno & Floating islands, Cusco, Machu Picchu
Day 1: Lima
Meet in Lima at ??? hotel. Dinner is arranged tonight at La Bistecca
Day 2: Lima
Your tour bus will pick you up from your hotel for your city tour of Lima. Today includes a guided sightseeing tour on Lima's colonial heritage. You visit the 18th- Century San Francisco Monastery, Government Palace, and Cathedral. Afterwards you visit the charming collection of Pre-Columbian jewelery and fascinating artifacts at the Gold Museum.
Day 3: Lima / Puno
We fly to Puno on a morning flight then you have time to check into your hotel, relax, acclimatize and enjoy the town of Puno. Take this day for some leisure time to explore the busy market, cathedral, quaint museum, and visit one of Puno's oldest houses, Casa del Corregidor, now a cultural centre.
Day 4: Floating Islands
Take a morning boat ride on the world's highest navigable lake, Lake Titcaca. You will visit the floating reed islands of the Uros people. The residents of the Uros use the cattail, a type of bush, which grows in the lake, to create the conditions that ensure the islands stay afloat. Tonight we will have dinner and have a show prepared by the residents who lodge us. These home stays do not have the same facilities as a house in the city. (Shared bathrooms, no hot water). Overnight. (L,D)
Day 5: Llachon Peninsula/ Taquile Island/ Cusco
After breakfast we transfer from Llachon Peninsula to Taquile Island (1 hour). Here we will visit Taquile Island and take a 50 minute walk from Chuño port, along a footpath that goes directly to the main square, located in the top of the island. The resident's have continued living here according to their old traditions. Return to Puno for the bus to Cusco. (B,L)
Day 6: Cusco
Today you have time to relax and enjoy the World Heritage site of Cusco. Cusco offers the visitor a spectacular glimpse of an almost perfectly intact colonial town. You can explore the many markets and stalls, and even people-watch in the main square, Plaza Des Armas.
Day 7: Cusco
To fully appreciate this astounding city you will do a half-day city tour that includes some of the most important sites in and around Cusco, including several famous Inca sites. The rest of today is free time to acclimatize and explore.
Day 8: Sacred Valley
After an early breakfast we begin the Sacred Valley of the Inca tour, where life has remained almost unchanged for 500 years. Today we will visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo, Pisac, and Chinceros. Later on, you will also have the opportunity of visiting the lively local market in Pisac to enjoy the beautiful handicrafts on sale. Tonight we spend the night in Cusco.
Day 9: Inca Trail (Day 1)
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 7.00am and transfer you to Poroy train station for your 4-hour journey to KM 104, where you will begin the trail. After registering with the Chachabamba park at the checkpoint, we will take the trail that leads to the Chachabamba ruins, then walking for another 2 1/2 hours where the path descends into a forest and also soon to pass a waterfall where you can refresh yourself. After leaving the forest we will arrive at the foot of WiñayWayna ruins (2700m). Finally after what almost seems like vertical steps, it is our last pass - Intipunku (Sun Gate). From here its now not long until you will be astonished with the city of Machu Picchu. We will enter from the top at around 4.00pm then the trail descends down into the ruins. You will have a short amount of free time then tomorrow we will have much more!
Day 10: Inca Trail (Day 2)
5am breakfast then at 5.30am we get the bus to Machu Picchu. We need to depart early so those who wish to climb Huayna Picchu will need to sign up before the 2 hour guided tour. During your visit to these ancient ruins you will see clouds fly past and Machu Picchu will disappear with in them, so make sure you take pictures whilst the ruins are visible. After the tour you will have free time to explore the mountain of Huayna Picchu overlooking all of Machu Picchu - by far the best view! Huayna Picchu will take approximately 2 hours return trip. It is now your choice to enjoy lunch just outside the ruins or take the bus back to AguasCalientes to explore this small and quaint village. The train back to Cusco departs late afternoon so your estimated time of arrival is approximately 9pm.
