The Real Peru Explorer – 20 Days
Visits: Lima , Parcas , Ica , Nazca , Arequipa , Puno , Cusco , Machu Picchu , Manu Jungle.
Day 1: Lima
Meet in Lima at ??? hotel. Dinner is arranged tonight at La Bistecca
Day 2: Lima
Your tour bus will pick you up from your hotel for your city tour of Lima. Today includes a guided sightseeing tour on Lima's colonial heritage. You visit the 18th- Century San Francisco Monastery, Government Palace, and Cathedral. Afterwards you visit the charming collection of Pre-Columbian jewelery and fascinating artifacts at the Gold Museum.
Day 3: Lima / Paracas
We journey south to the Paracas Wildlife Reserve for our boat ride to the Ballestas Islands, inhabited by boobies, pelicans, sea lions, penguins, flamingos, whales, and many other sea mammals and sea life. Accommodation is in Paracas.
Day 4: Paracas / Ica / Nazca
Early morning start for our drive to Ica. After lunch and free time in Ica, we take our 45-minute afternoon flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines. You will also get a chance to visit an ancient Nazca Indian cemetery and learn how this archeological site contains ancient mummies in their original graves with their artifacts. Accommodation in Nazca.
Day 5: Nazca / Arequipa
After breakfast you visit the breath-taking Huacaccino Oasis (with an option for sand-boarding). Afterwards you take a bus that heads for Arequipa. Most of today is spent in the bus, with some free time to acclimatize in your hotel once we arrive to Arequipa. Hotel in Arequipa
Day 6: Arequipa / Colca Canyon
From Arequipa we go to the National Reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas. We continue on our way through the zone of Tocra over 4500m, where we will observe lakes with migrant birds and take pictures of the "Antiplano" (highland) with its llamas and Guanacos. Our highest point will be "Pata Pampa", located at 4820m. Accommodation in Chivay
Day 7: Chivay / Colca Canyon / Arequipa
You leave for the famous "Cruz del Condor" point where you will see the "flight of the condors". Today you also visit the traditional town of Pinchollo and the Antahuilque viewpoint. We return to Chivay and after our lunch then we take the route to Arequipa City, arriving in the evening.
Day 8: Arequipa / Puno
You will take a guided tour of the White City. Your tour includes visits to the main plaza with its cafes and cathedral. You will also view the spectacular mountains surrounding Arequipa, the most famous of which is El Misti Volcano at 5822 meters. In the afternoon you take the bus to Puno.

Day 9: Puno / Floating islands
Take this dayfor some leisure time to explore the busy market, cathedral, quaint museum, and visit one of Puno's oldest houses, Casa del Corregidor, now a cultural centre.
Day 10: Floating Islands
Take a morning boat ride on the world's highest navigable lake, Lake Titcaca. You will visit the floating reed islands of the Uros people. The residents of the Uros use the cattail, a type of bush, which grows in the lake, to create the conditions that ensure the islands stay afloat. Tonight we will have dinner and have a show prepared by the residents who lodge us. These home stays do not have the same facilities as a house in the city. (Shared bathrooms, no hot water). Day 11: Llachon Peninsula/ Taquile Island/ Cusco
After breakfast we transfer from Llachon Peninsula to Taquile Island (1 hour). Here we will visit Taquile Island and take a 50 minute walk from Chuño port, along a footpath that goes directly to the main square, located in the top of the island. The resident's have continued living here according to their old traditions. Return to Punofor the bus to Cusco. (B,L)
Day 12: Cusco
Today you have time to relax and enjoy the World Heritage site of Cusco. Cusco offers the visitor a spectacular glimpseof an almost perfectly intact colonial town. You can explore the many markets and stalls, and even people-watch in the main square, Plaza Des Armas.
Day 13: Cusco
To fully appreciate this astounding city you will do a half-day city tour that includes some of the most important sites in and around Cusco, including several famous Inca sites. The rest of today is free time to acclimatize and explore.
Day 14: Sacred Valley
After an early breakfast we begin the Sacred Valley of the Inca tour, where life has remained almost unchanged for 500 years. Today we will visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo, Pisac, and Chinceros. Later on, you will also have the opportunity of visiting the lively local market in Pisac to enjoy the beautiful handicrafts on sale. Tonight we spend the night in Cusco.
Day 15: Inca Trail (Day 1)
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 7.00am and transfer you to Poroy train station for your 4-hour journey to KM 104, where you will begin the trail. After registering with the Chachabamba park at the checkpoint, we will take the trail that leads to the Chachabamba ruins, then walking for another 2 1/2 hours where the path descends into a forest and also soon to pass a waterfall where you can refresh yourself. After leaving the forest we will arrive at the foot of Wiñay Wayna ruins (2700m). Finally after what almost seems like vertical steps, it is our last pass - Intipunku (Sun Gate). From here its now not long until you will be astonished with the city of Machu Picchu. We will enter from the top at around 4.00pm then the trail descends down into the ruins. You will have a short amount of free time then tomorrow we will have much more!
Day 16: Inca Trail (Day 2)
5am breakfast then at 5.30am we get the bus to Machu Picchu. We need to depart early so those who wish to climb Huayna Picchu will need to sign up before the 2 hour guided tour. During your visit to these ancient ruins you will see clouds fly past and Machu Picchu will disappear with in them, so make sure you take pictures whilst the ruins are visible. After the tour you will have free time to explore the mountain of Huayna Picchu overlooking all of Machu Picchu - by far the best view! Huayna Picchu will take approximately 2 hours return trip. It is now your choice to enjoy lunch just outside the ruins or take the bus back to AguasCalientes to explore this small and quaint village. The train back to Cusco departs late afternoon so your estimated time of arrival is approximately 9pm.
Day 17: Cloud Forest-Pilcopata Lodge
Leaving from Cusco in our comfortable bus we drive to Paucartambo. The bus descents through the mysterious cloud forest full of beautiful orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns. We stop to give you an opportunity to witness Cock-of-the-Rocks (Rupicola Peruviana) mating ritual. There are also possibilities to observe the Amazonian Umbrella bird (Cephalopteros Ornatus), Trogons (Trogon sp.) and many more. With luck we might see the only South American Bear (Tremarctos ornatus). We spend the night in a lodge. Shared bathrooms.
Day 18: Pilcopata-Atalaya- Paititi Lodge
After a delicious breakfast our bus transfers the group to the port of Atalaya. Then we spend approximately 25 minutes traveling on the Alto Madre De Dios River. On the way you can see a variety of bird life including herons, egrets, kingfishers, and the ever-present vultures known as the Condor. In the afternoon we take a walk and explore around the area. We spend the night in Lodge. Shared bathrooms.
Day 19: Paititi Lodge –Collpa De Los Loros-Atalaya-Cusco
Very early we go to the Parrots clay to see the parrots and then go back to the lodge for a delicious breakfast. Unfortunately after this we have to go to the port to take the boat to back towards Cusco. Transfer to the hotel.
Day 20: Cusco
After breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Lima. If you have alternate plans, this is ok also.
